The old saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words. And I know it's true.
One thing that I have made a daily a practice of over the past few years is to visit the Magnum Today's Pictures feature on the slate.com website. There is a level of meaning involved with simply seeing something. I had some experience of that with these images of Afghani school girls. Right there is all the argument one could ever offer on behalf of these children —right there on their faces.
